Fic: Ryan Vs. The Gilmores (The OC/Gilmore Girls, Slash, Ryan/Jess)
Part of my Ryan Atwood/Jess Mariano Universe. Takes place a few eyars after the previous installments, the day ebfore Luke and Lorelai's wedding in Stars Hollow. Ryan has a little confrontation with Lorelai's parents, who knew Caleb.

I wasn't gonna post this, but there's one line I really adore... it's not even dialogue, it's a description... lol... but I love it and decided to post the rest... plus? it gives me the oppurtunity to use the icon I uploaded for slash fics! lol

It can be safely assumed that Ryan and Jess are firmly together and committed to eachother.

"Why do I have to be here?" Jess muttered as he helped set up a table on the back lawn of the Dragonfly Inn.

"You're your uncle's best man, it's your job," Ryan replied. "I'm the one who shouldn't have to be here."

"You're my boyfriend, you do have to be here," Jess said, looking up at Ryan, then leaning over to pull him into a kiss. "Besides, if I have to sit through this alone, I'll kill someone, probably one of Lorelai's parents, and that will ruin the whole evening."

"Remind me to tell you about the time I went to Vegas for Caleb Nichols' bachelor party and it ended with the groom getting punched out by the bride's ex-husband," Ryan said.

"If Lorelai's ex shows up, I'm locking him in a closet," Jess commented.

"I suggest the gardening shed," Ryan suggested, nodding to the far side of the lawn. "Less chance of someone letting him out."

Jess laughed. "Good idea."

"And who are these two charming young men?" Emily Gilmore said as she approahed with Lorelai.

"You remember Luke's nephew, Jess, don't you mom?" Lorelai said. "And this is Ryan, Jess' boyfriend."

Emily stopped short. "Boyfriend?"

"Yeah, you're grand daughter's rejection soured me on women for good," Jess said with a smirk.

"You're being a jerk again," Ryan said. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Mrs. Gilmore," he said, offering her the same carefully schooled smile he'd learned to use with Newpsies. The smile that was friendly on the surface, but if you looked a little closer said 'I know exactly what you're capable of and you still don't scare me, bitch'.

"Ryan's an architecture major at NYU," Lorelai said. "And comes from a very well respected family on the west coast," she added, rolling her eyes behind her mom's back as Emily's surprised expression melted into one of interest.

"Really? What are their names, maybe I know them?"

"My mom is Kirsten Cohen," Ryan said, going with simplicity. "Her dad was the late Caleb Nichols?"

"Oh, Richard knew Caleb, they went to Yale together," Emily said. "That was such a tragic loss for your family."

"Yes, tragic," Ryan agreed, hoping he sounded at least twice as sincere as he felt... which still wasn't that sincere.

"Richard!" Emily called, waving her husband over. "It seems Luke's nephew is friends with one of Caleb Nichols' grandsons," she said.

"Really?" Richard said. "Well, you can't be Seth..."

"No, sir, I'm Ryan."

"Ryan? I don't remember..." Richard began then stopped. "The boy who stole a car, burned down a house, assaulted a boy at school, and got a girl pregnant all within a year?"

Ryan whinced. "Nice to know Caleb hated me enough to tell everyone about how much a delinquent I was at 15," he said.

"There were circumstances..." Jess began defensively.

"Doesn't matter," Ryan pointed out. "If Mr. Gilmore is anything like Caleb was, he won't change any set opinion he has. Half of Newport still thinks of me as that Chino car thief, but it doesn't matter. The people who matter know I'm not."

"That's a very mature attitude," Richard said, nodding. "What do you do, young man?"

"I'm an Architecture Student," Ryan replied. "And I work part time at a Gallery to make ends meet."

"Kirsten and her husband aren't paying your way?"

Ryan stiffened, his expression dark. "No. They aren't. I got a full scholarship, and because of the nature of the scholarship, I also got a housing stipend that pays most of my half of the rent. The job covers the rest of my expenses."

"Good, always nice to see someone not mooching off their family."

"Let's go see if everyone's assigned seating is the way it should be," Lorelai said, guiding her parents away and shooting an amused look back at the boys.

"I can't tell," Jess said. "Did that go well?"

"I have no idea," Ryan admitted, shaking his head in amusement.

The End

Heh. I like that, especially Jess and Ryan not being able to figure out what Richard and Emily were really saying - perfect Gilmore parents voices.

And Caleb *still* manages to haunt Ryan.

I liked this installment, thanks for sharing!

*snorts* Now, I have watched a little GG....and that? Spot on! I *love* this: "It's a pleasure to meet you, Mrs. Gilmore," he said, offering her the same carefully schooled smile he'd learned to use with Newpsies. The smile that was friendly on the surface, but if you looked a little closer said 'I know exactly what you're capable of and you still don't scare me, bitch'."

Most enjoyable, thanks.
