24 Gifts Of 2009 - Day Fourteen - Keep Breathing (Multifandom Apocafic)
I struggled a bit with today's gift. I had a bad day at work (Who the hell, after hearing the cashier say three times "We're suppose to be closed now, but we can't close until there's no line." then spends 5 fucking minutes hemming and hawing about what she wants to get to eat? And then changes her mind not once but twice? And then takes fucking forever to get her money together? I mean seriously? Will it kill you to get $4.65 back instead of $5 even? Do you have to waste so much time that someone ELSE got online, delaying us MORE so that we didn't close until like TEN MINUTES after we were suppose to? Bitch.) and none of my planned gifts seemed... good enough... when I got on my computer.

So, I started thinking, and decided that tonight, the gift is a couple snippets from a storyline I've been working on for a while. It's very much a multiple crossover, with characters from about a half dozen fandoms (only 1 or 2 per fandom, though), and I'm kind of in love with it.

I don't wanna give away too much here in the notes, and I think the snippets make the back story relatively clear. In short, though? Apocalypse. Massive Apocalypse.

The snippets feature characters from Eureka, Supernatural and The OC. But there are other fandoms in the universe, too. Before each snippet, I've listed the characters featured in the snippet. Others may be mentioned or cameo, but the listed characters are the focus of the snippet.

For reference sake, since I write a LOT of apocafic, this one is (for now at least, it may change) being called the 'Keep Breathing' universe, because that's what everyone is trying to do, Keep Breathing.

1. Jo Lupo and Dean Winchester (Eureka/Supernatural)

Jo pushed aside the curtain of the meeting house to peer into the early afternoon haze. The only movement within the camp was a couple of the kids running around playing a silent game of tag.

"Someday we'll have to teach them to yell when they play," Dean said, coming up behind her.

"And find earplugs to prevent a rise in homicides?" Jo asked with an amused smirk as she glanced over.

"Nah," Dean said with a shake of his head. "Everyone'll appreciate being able to make noise too much."

Jo nodded, seeing his point. Even inside, where they could talk at normal volume, most people whispered, listening for an alert from the sentries. "How's the knee?" she asked, fully turning to face him this time.

"Not bad," Dean said, both of them knowing he was lying through his teeth. He'd been captured a few weeks earlier and tortured for information he'd refused to give. In retaliation for the insults he'd slung at his captors, he had been shot in the knee, damaging the nerves and muscles, as well as the Joint itself. Before the damage, he'd been one of the team leaders, now he planned missions, like the one Jo and her team were going out on that night. "Don't get caught tonight," he warned her.

"Not planning on it," Jo replied. "I'm not worried, Ryan's been memorizing the blueprints, Faith and Riggins are our back up. We'll be fine."

"Get them back safe, too," Dean said, glancing out the doorway again as Faith emerged from the cabin she shared with Tyra, Brooke, and Chloe. "But don't tell her I said that," he added.

"Don't worry, I don't want you dead anymore than you want to be dead," Jo replied with a smirk.

"Always good to hear," Dean said, grinning.

The End

2. Ryan Atwood and Faith Lehane (The OC/Buffyverse)

"Enjoying the fresh air?" Ryan asked sarcastically as Faith walked up to where he sat huddled next to the fire pit.

"Yeah, it's so crisp and clean," Faith replied, sitting down beside him and holding her hands out to the hot metal and rubbing them together. She glanced over at Ryan's his face red from the cold air, and reached out to press her warmed palms against his cheeks, laughing when he sighed and rolled his eyes, but didn't pull away.

"It's just wrong that the chick in leather is the mother hen of this group," Ryan teased.

"That's mother lion," Faith corrected, releasing him to warm her hands again. "The bitches did all the hard work and protected the cubs."

Ryan laughed, stretching out to warm his own hands. "Whatever you say, Faith."

"You worried about tonight?" Faith asked.

"Only about leaving Tyra," Ryan replied, glancing towards the cabin Faith had just left. "How is she?"

"Very pregnant and very pissed," Faith said. "Between you and Riggins, the girl isn't getting a moment's peace."

Ryan chuckled again. "We're just... protective. If... come on, don't you want to see a kid actually survive being born since this shit went down?"

"You know I do," Faith said. "We all do. But smothering her ain't helping."

"I know," Ryan said, glancing over at the kids, the youngest being 3 year-old Jenna Stark, who Jo had brought with her from Oregon when she'd gotten the hell away from the coast. And next to Jenna, keeping a watchful eye on the younger girl, was 5 year-old Sophie Rose Cohen, Ryan's sister and the next youngest.

"We're doing this shit for them," Faith said. "And Tyra's kid. And the kids Matt and Chloe will have if they keep going at it like rabbits..." She paused, smiling, as Ryan laughed again. "Kids you'll have."

"Kids you and Dean will have?" Ryan said mockingly.

"Don't start with me, Runt," Faith said, shoving his shoulder.

The End

So... I kinda of love this universe.

I plan on writing a LOT more for this universe, and I have a fanmix in the works for it.

Besides Dean/Faith and Matt/Chloe (from Stargate: Universe), no pairings are set. Tyra being pregnant is because of the fact that Adrianne Palicki's character in her new movie 'Legion' is pregnant (as seen here and here). I saw the images and kinda liked the idea. Neither Ryan Atwood or Tim Riggins are the father of her baby, they're just being protective idiots. In Riggins' case, it's because she's pretty much all he has left, everyone else from Dillon is dead or 'gone' (meaning he hasn't seen them since the shit hit the fan), they may be alive, though.

Anyway, there you go. New universe. Hopefully full of awesome.

lol... I found pics of Erica Cerra (Jo Lupo) from when she was on Battlestar Galactica, specifically in Lay Down Your Burdens Part 2, and it was so nicely apocalyptic looking... how could I resist?

And I love SGU... yeah, there's some things I have issue with (Having sex with your loved one while in someone else's body? It's wrong! It's sex without consent of the person who's body it actually is!), but... I still love it...
