Microsoft = Frickin' Idiots
This morning, I installed a bunch of updates that microsoft said were needed. Big mistake. Almost as soon as i restarted from the install, I started having issues with my laptop freezing on me. I thought it was just being finicky, but it kwept doing it even after having been shut down for 3 and a half hours while I was working. Then I get home, it freezes within minutes of me booting up and I had to hold the power button down to shut it downb, and when I restarted, it got to the 'Welcome' screen after I put in my password, and it froze... so I held down the power button again, this time booted up in safe mode, and I did a system restore to before the updates were installed.

And what do you know? It's working just fine now! God damn windows updates were fucking with it... I think the problem with the updates is that they don't take into account that hey, people install software sometimes. And sometimes their updates interact badly with the software and fuck things up.

I was terrified that, with money tight between buying gifts and working less hours (3 1/2 hours a day this week, instead of my usual 7 hours a day) and missing so many days last month (sick, injured, and then Thanksgiving) so that my paycheck was tiny, I would also be a hundred bucks or more out of pocket and be without my laptop to boot...

Thankfully, all seems to be okay now, and all I lost was about half a page of fic for tonight's 24 gifts, but I think I can rewrite it quickly and it'll be just as good/better... just... gah...

*GAH!* indeed. I feel your pain. When microsoft isn't worthless, it's usually messing with something else on the 'puter that *works*.

I've been ready for a while to go Apple, but for money. Money. And money. Oh, and my resident 'puter guru mr.gambit doesn't like Apple. Not sure how well I'd do without a guide, though I've picked up a few things over the years....

Very happy for you the machine sorted itself out. As my [then nearly] grown son used to say when I complained that I tried to use the 'help' function but it never addressed the problem: "Of course not, mom. 'Microsoft Help' is an oxymoron."

Maybe just plain morons, all of them?

Worst part is, it decided to install them again this morning, and it worked just fine for my mom (she's borrowing my laptop in the morning since my brother's in town and he sleeps on the couch so the main computer would bother him...) and it was fine while I was on it at home... but I get to work, and since I have 3 hours to kill before my shift actually starts, I boot up the computer and what do you know? within 15 minutes it freezes. This time I did one restart, then I did a system restore... I'm trying the 'hide updates' trick in hopes it won't install them AGAIN because I don't wanna be doing system restore every frickin' day so that it won't die on me.

I'm pissed as hell because seriously? I don't need this stress. I get stressed out enough over stuff, I don't need this, too! I swear, I'm gonna have an ulcer by the time I hit 30 at this rate...

Well- crap! to the recurring ms nonsense. Sometimes I think they are screwy on purpose to try and force us into buying their newest operating system.

I might be a little paranoid 'bout that, LOL. This hits home: "I get stressed out enough over stuff, I don't need this, too!" For all of us whose online life is a much-needed recreation and escape, having the computer f***'d up is a crisis. *hugs mara*

Thanks... I'm just one of those people that gets really stressed out over stupid minor stuff... in a real crisis I'm great, but when little things go wrong I start stressing and freaking out (though I've gotten better at it... I just remind myself that "Hey, if this was an actual crisis, I'd be calm, since I'm freaking out it must just be minor so I need to chill out!" and that actually kinda works... lol)
