In The Blood - Part Two
I think I like this 'verse even if, again, it's focused on The OC... I promise, characters from the other fandoms will be coming into play soon. I'm just trying to establish things first... and the Ryan and Kaitlin dynamic is an important one... it's a catalyst for everything else.

"What are we doing here?" Kaitlin asked as she found Ryan standing in front of Marissa's grave the next night.

"You ever hear stories about the things that go bump in the night?" Ryan began, glancing her way, then looking back towards the grave.

"Yeah, who hasn't."

"You ever think they're real?"

"What are you on and where do I get some?" Kaitlin asked with a snort.

"I'm serious, Kaitlin," Ryan said. "What happened yesterday... it's bad, it's really bad, and if you don't ignore it, you're gonna... I don't want you to end up right next to her," he said.

"What is it?"

"In every generation, there's one girl in all the world chosen to fight the things that go bump in the night. Just one girl, for all the evils of the world. It's a lousy job, and they all tend to die very young, most of them within a year of being called. And when one dies, the next is called. What happened yesterday... the last one must have died, and it's your turn."

"What are you talking about?" Kaitlin asked.

"You're a Slayer, Kaitlin. It's... a destiny, or something, but you have to walk away from it."

"Because there are things out there you have no clue about and you don't know how to fight them!"

"You obviously know, you can teach me," Kaitlin said.

"Not all the stuff out there... some of what you'll be up against aren't monsters, they're people. Normal people who took up the fight, but took the rules a little too literally. They think Slayers are evil and need to be put down the same as any of the other monsters they hunt, same as the Vampires that Slayers hunt. If you start fighting, they will hunt you down, and they will kill you."

"Not if you..."

"Kaitlin..." Ryan said, letting his tone turn pleading. "I'm trying to protect you."

"And what if something finds me anyway, and I don't know how to fight it?" Kaitlin argued.

Ryan sighed and looked up, first at her face, then over her shoulder, his expression hardening. "Watch and learn, it's what you're up against if you do this," he ordered her before striding past her, one hand going into his jacket to grasp the stake he'd prepared earlier.

It was the early years of training with Frank, and the later training with Trey and some of Dawn's boyfriends, that allowed him to hold his own against the vampire, that and the fact that the vampire's dirty funeral suit indicated it was new to the whole evil undead thing.

He ducked under a flying fist, and kicked out, his foot catching the vampire in the stomach as he rolled to the side, and temporarily stunning the creature. As he got back up to his feet, Ryan hazarded a glance towards Kitlin, who was watching in stunned silence, her eyes wide with terror. "Vampires are stronger and faster than any normal human," Ryan recited as he smashed his fist into the Vampire's face. "A fully trained Slayer is on equally footing with one, and stands a fifty/fifty chance of staking them," he added as he swung the stake to get it in the heart. The creature manage to dodge the strike, though, instead the wood burying itself in the shoulder and wrenching it out of Ryan's grip.

Ryan swore under his breath right before a hit sent him crashing into a tree, the air knocked out of his lungs. He was trying to pull in enough air to tell Kaitlin to run, even as he tried to get to his feet and escape the advancing vampire, who pulled the stake from it's shoulder and dropped it to the ground. "Kait..." he choked out. "Run! Get out of..."

Before he could finish, there was a blur and the creature went down, clutching at it's knee and howling in pain. And a moment after that, it howled again, this time in rage, then dusted, reavealing Kaitlin behind it, stake clutched in her fist and eyes wide with shock.

"What the fuck?" she whispered.

"You really wanna do this on a regular basis?" Ryan asked her.

Kaitlin hesitated, then dropped down in front of him. "You okay?"

"Been hurt worse," Ryan said, offering a reassuring smile.

"Will you teach me how to do this shit?"

"What if that thing had gone after someone who couldn't fight it?" Kaitlin said. "What if... I think maybe I don't have a choice."

Ryan hesitated, studying her face for a long moment, then nodded. "Okay," he said. "I'll teach you."

"Everything I know," Ryan promised. "Starting tomorrow because my ribs can't take any training tonight," he added with a grin, trying to reassure her.

"That was a vampire, right?" Kaitlin asked as she helped him get to his feet.

"That was a newborn Vampire," Ryan corrected. "Probably pulled itself up out of it's grave tonight, maybe last night. It hasn't had time to learn what it can and can't do, that's why it was so easy to take out."

"You call that easy?"

"Compared to some? Yeah," Ryan said. "You seriously ready to do this every night?"

"No," Kaitlin said. "But it's not like I can really turn down the job, right?"

Ryan offered a sad smile, and put his hands on her shoulders. "Alright. Come on, let's go get some food, I'll fill you in on a few things. Namely the warnings signs."

"Warning signs?"

"Of when you're facing a Hunter who wants to kill you," Ryan said.

"How do you know so much about this stuff?"

"My father, Frank, he... he was one of those Hunters who killed Slayers," Ryan admitted, his expression pained. "I grew up listening to him but... the one Slayer I saw him... dealing with... she was... she was younger than you. I tried to help her, but... he just killed her."

"Oh my God..."

"Yeah," Ryan said. "That's why I'm gonna teach you the warning signs. So you don't end up like her."

"Right," Kaitlin said. "Where do we start?"

To be Continued...

Ryan is totally a kick ass hunter. And Kaitlin is totally gonna be kick ass once she's trained. And notice how she was frozen in shock/terror until Ryan was in serious danger, then she kicked Vampiric ass? lol...

Right now the characters I plan on havign appear:
Supernatural: Dean Winchester, Gordon Walker, Bobby Singer, maybe Ellen and/or Jo Harvelle
BTVS/ATS: Faith LeHane, Xander Harris, Spike, maybe Willow Rosenberg
The OC: Ryan Atwood, Kaitlin Cooper, Julie Cooper, Alex Kelly, Summer Roberts, The Cohens, maybe Dr. Roberts and/or Zach Stevens and/or Luke Ward (Gotta say it... Luke/Alex are Apocafic Love! lol)
OTH: Brooke Davis, Peyton Sawyer, Nathan Scott

And I might possibly bring in others from other fandoms... like Jess Mariano from Gilmore Girls... heh... the idea just popped into my head... it could make an... interesting... love triangle... Brooke/Ryan/Jess... lol... sorry, couldn't resist the random thought... lol...

I'm gonna go back and edit the tags on the first part to include all the fandoms...

Sometime soon, I gotta go back and edit tags to tag by pairing... and I seriously need to catalog all my fics on Deliscious... lol...

Yay! Poor Ryan- training a newbie slayer is going to be hell on your ribs for a long time. I wonder how he's going to react when he finds out that willow activated all the potentials? I'm thinking he's not going to be a happy camper...

I'm thinking he may just whimper a little bit... lol... it's hard enough dealing with one Slayer kicking his ass, the concept of hundreds, THOUSANDS of them out there? omg... poor Ryan... lol

Is a Watcher going to show up or is Ryan going to be it?

Looking forward to whatever happens next!

Well, some Watchers may show up at some point... I haven't yet decided whether they'll be the New School Watchers (Led by Giles' example) or Old School (Like Travers and such from the show)...

Great chapter Mara. I'm looking forward to seeing all the rest of the gang in there, duking it out. Faith is going to be seriously pissed when she finds out that Frank killed a Slayer.

Mwah ha ha!
