New Fic: Completely - Part One (The OC/OTH, Ryan/Brooke + Sam)
Title: Completely - Part One
Author: missmara
Fandoms: The OC/One Tree Hill
Rating: R (to be safe)
Warnings: Language, Violence, Sex.
Summary: "Sam smiled as she heard the friendly banter from the kitchen, thinking that this Ryan guy might be a good guy for Brooke to be around."
Notes: So, quite a while back, I made a post about this idea where Ryan replaces Julian in the current OTH storylines, and I wrote two little snippets to accompany it. (You can find that original post here.) This is an expansion on that universe, revealing at leats one possible way that the univers ebegan with Ryan arriving in Tree Hill. Title comes from the song by Jennifer Day, which I absolutely adore. I plan on making art for this story later... first I must lay down for a bit because ahving to work? Is not helping me get well quickly! lol

The first few sections are mainly to set things up. Assume everything not shown happened the same as on the show. HERE is the link to a clip of the Brooke/Bad Guy showdown. Assume it went down just like that, except Ryan instead of Julian walked in at the end.... this actually makes me think I should do a Brooke Video Primer, like I did for NipTuck/Christian Troy and for Brothers & Sisters... because there is much awesomeness and depth to Brooke... lol

Completely - Part One

Ryan hadn't spoken to Brooke in months, not since he'd lashed out at her for letting her mother run her life so entirely and she'd told him to go to hell. He'd heard through the grapevine that she'd moved home to North Carolina not long after that, and more recently that she'd given up control of Clothes Over Bros to her mother, but Brooke hadn't called him and he hadn't called her in months.

Then he found the voicemail left on his cell when he stepped outside for some fresh air during a gallery show Vanessa was holding for him. There'd been a message about Seth's impending divorce from Summer, and another from Sandy wanting Ryan to try and find out why they were getting divorced, then one from Summer saying that as long as he didn't butt in, she still considered him a friend and hoped the feeling was the mutual.

Then had come Brooke's message. Four short words that were laced with meaning.

"Ry, I need you."

He didn't say goodbye, he didn't go home and pack, he just headed for the airport to get the first flight he could to North Carolina. To Brooke.

When Brooke arrived home from another fruitless search for Sam, she saw an unfamiliar car parked out front and an unfamiliar figure sitting on the steps. It wasn't until she was walking up the front walk that the figure lifted his head and she realized who it was. "Ry," she whispered, letting her purse slide from her shoulder.

Ryan got to his feet to wrap her in his arms. "I don't know what's wrong, but I'm here, whatever you need, I'm here."

"She ran away, and I'm scared something bad's happened to her," Brooke said.

"Who ran away?" Ryan asked.

"Sam," Brooke said. "My foster daughter."

"Okay, I'll help you look, but I need you to back up and explain this to me, okay?"

Brooke nodded and sat down on the steps, waiting until Ryan sat beside her to begin. "I met her when she stole a shirt from my store in town," she said. "And then she turned out to be in my friend Haley's class at the high school, and... I don't even know how I ended up taking Sam in, but I did, and I... and I love the little brat, but..."

"I found out... not long after she stole the shirt, this guy broke into the store at closing. He robbed me and beat me and... and he... he hurt me. Last night, Sam told me that it was because of her. She told a friend that I was a bitch and deserved to be taught a lesson, and she was just venting, but her friend did something about it and that's why... that's why I was attacked..."

"Oh God..." Ryan said.

"She told me and I just... I just stood there," Brooke said. "I didn't know what to say. And Sam ran out and now I can't find her and because she's unofficially my foster daughter, there's nothing I can do about reporting her missing..."

"We'll find her," Ryan said.

Ryan jumped out of his rental, leaving the door wide open as he heard the yelling, and felt his heart jump as there was a dull 'thump'. But as he shoved open the door, Brooke was standing with her arms around a girl who had to be Sam, while a dangerous looking man was unconscious on the floor. "Brooke?" Ryan asked. "Are you okay?"

"Yeah," Brooke said. "He's the son of a bitch who attacked me."

"And Sam?" Ryan asked, trying to see if the girl was hurt.

"I'm okay," Sam whispered.

"She's safe now," Brooke said.

"You both are, thanks to you, Brooke," Ryan said, pulling out his cell to call the police.

"Who are you, anyway?" Sam asked as they got into Ryan's car for him to take them home, since Brooke was too shaky to drive her car.

"Ryan's a friend of mine from New York," Brooke said. "I called him when I couldn't find you. And he came."

"I'll always come," Ryan said, glancing over at her. "Always, Brooke."

"Good to know," Brooke said, reaching across the front seat to take his hand.

"I'll drop you guys off then go get a room for the night. Start back for New York fresh in the morning," Ryan said.

"Stay at the house," Brooke asked. "It's stupid for you to pay for a hotel room when I still have an extra guest room."

"You sure?" Ryan asked.

"Yeah," Brooke said.

"That okay with you, Sam?" Ryan asked, glancing up at the girl in the rearview mirror.

"Fine," Sam agreed.

Sam woke up before Brooke in the morning and headed out into the living room, spotting Ryan asleep on the couch. She hesitated a moment, wondering exactly how good a 'friend' Ryan was to Brooke, then heard Brooke coming downstairs and backtracked into the hall to watch and listen. As soon as Brooke stepped into the living room, Ryan woke up, glancing first at the front door, then the patio doors, then over at Brooke.

"Morning," he said.

"Didn't I show you to a guest room?" Brooke asked.

"Did you already forget I've got a hero complex?" Ryan replied.

"Thanks," Brooke said. "For coming, and for... keeping watch."

"Hey, you got me out of an art show filled with Upper East Siders," Ryan said, shrugging. "Frankly, you need to need me more often."

"What if I need you for a couple more days?" Brooke asked.

"I think that can be arranged."

"Good," Brooke said. "Come on, I have gotten not bad at making edible breakfasts."

"Seriously?" Ryan asked. "Because Vanessa still has a burn mark on her kitchen wall from you attempts in her place."

"How was I suppose to know the pot holder would ignite?"

"Well, that's what happens when you put cloth on a burner that's turned on," Ryan replied patiently, though with a tinge of humor in his voice.

"Geeze, Brooke, did you try to burn down someone's house?" Sam said as she made her appearance, yawning as if she'd just woken up.

"Just her kitchen," Ryan said, laughing as Brooke tried to smack him with a dish towel, though she was smiling too.

"So, you sticking around a while?" Sam asked.

"Thinking about it," Ryan said. "All I'm missing in New York is a bunch of really borning 'business parties' that my friend Chuck drags me to. And they stopped being fun when Brooke stopped being around to trade catty comments with Chuck."

"Gay?" Sam guessed.

"No, just really bitchy for a straight guy," Brooke replied, laughing. "But God wouldn't you love to see Chuck's reaction to her saying that?"

Ryan tried to keep a straight face, but started snickering as he imagined it. "I'd pay money to see that," he admitted.

"So, you might wanna get your stuff and put it in the guest room, huh?" Sam said. "If you're sticking around."

"If I stick around I'll get a hotel..." Ryan said.

"Why? We've got room..." Brooke said.

"Brooke, you don't need me playing guard dog," Ryan said gently, though with a smile. "You kicked that assholes ass into next week all by yourself."

"It's stupid for you to waste money," Brooke said.

"I have to spend money to get some clothes, anyway," Ryan said.

"Because all I've got with me is what you see?" Ryan said. "Plus the jacket over the back of the couch," he added. "I got the voicemail while I was at an opening and I went straight to the airport."

"Hero complex, remember?" Ryan said. "I can't stay away when a friend needs me. That's why I keep getting in the middle of the Vanessa/Blair war, and trying to keep my brother from screwing up his marriage. My friends need me, I'm there."

"All the more reason for you to stay here," Brooke said. "Since you've either gotta pay for some of your stuff to be brought here, or you have to buy new stuff..."

"For a couple days," Ryan agreed. "Then I'll get a hotel room."

"Deal," Brooke said, nodding. "Crap, Sam, you have school," she said after a moment.

"I went through a trauma yesterday..." Sam began.

"No excuses, you're going," Brooke said. "You don't need to miss anymore classes, and Hales will be thrilled to see you alive."

"Dramatic, much," Sam said, though she was smiling slightly. "I'll go get dressed while you burn the kitchen down," she added, turning back to her room.

"I hate you for letting her hear about that!" Brooke said.

"Sorry," Ryan said, laughing.

Sam smiled as she heard the friendly banter from the kitchen, thinking that this Ryan guy might be a good guy for Brooke to be around.

"Now that's the Ryan I know and adore," Brooke said when Ryan entered Clothes Over Bros later wearing his new jeans and t-shirt.

"Blame Chuck for making me wear the suit," Ryan replied, sitting on the couch. "And be thankful, as I am, that Vanessa hits him everytime he suggests I try one of his damn scarves."

"Those things are hideous," Brooke agreed, sitting down beside him. "So... interested in renovating a former clothing boutique into... something?" she asked, gesturing aorund.

"I turned the company over to Victoria, so... I have nothing."

"Start a new company," Ryan said. "You've got a personal wealth, right?"

"And I know Chuck and Vanessa would invest if you need them to. Plus you've got the loyalty of vendors because Victoria alienates everyone."

"I guess."

"Make something new and awesome, Brooke Davis."

"Easier said than done, Ryan Atwood," Brooke replied.

"I have complete faith in you," Ryan said. "And that never happens."

"I know, oh ye of little faith," Brooke teased, pulling her legs up to tuck them beneath her. "Maybe I'll turn it into an art gallery and bring the famous artist Ryan Atwood to small town North Carolina..." she continued, laughing as Ryan made a face.

"I'm not famous, Brooke," he said.

"People are paying thousands for your paintings, that's famous."

"Chuck and his circle are paying thousands," Ryan corrected. "They aren't normal people."

"You seriously think Chuck would waste thousands of dollars on something he hated just to boost your ego?"

"Probably not," Ryan admitted.

"You're good," Brooke said.

"So are you," Ryan replied. "Don't let Victoria take that from you, Brooke."

"You're right," Brooke said, looking around. "So... how long are you sticking around?"

Ryan shrugged. "I was getting tired of New York, anyway. Tree Hill's a nice place to be for a while."

"Then how about I hire Ryan Atwood the Architect to help me remodel this place into being an even better version of what it was?"

"Sounds like a deal," Ryan said. "Although you should know, Ryan Atwood the Architect gives big discounts to friends."

"I can handle that," Brooke said.

"And when you compine that with the pretty girl discount?" Ryan began, shrugging. "You're gonna end up paying almost nothing."

"How's room and board sound?"

"Sounds like a deal," Ryan agreed, shaking her hand.
