Feel This - Part Five
Wait... what is this? Am I actually posting fic sometime that ISN'T 24 Gifts??!! lol This has been sitting on my computer for a long time (along with another complete chapter and one half finished chapter... I'll get them up before the end of the month... I think... lol) and I decided to post...

I went back and forth a bit... Mean!Kirsten who sides with Sandy and Seth? Ambivalent!Kirsten who is sorry about what happened and agreed emancipation was best for Ryan but otherwise just let him go? MamaBear!Kirsten who gets pissed that one of her sons was hurt so badly by the other son, multiple times, while Sandy sat on his ass?

I did decide, obviously, and now there's a new chapter!

Also, a warning: Marissa makes an appearance. But in good news... it doesn't go well for her.

Feel This - Part Five

Neil called Suriak that evening, wanting to tell Kirsten what had happened but also knowing it could make her recovery more difficult. The doctor had agreed that it would be best if Kirsten found out at Suriak, rather than when she went home and found Ryan gone, so Neil and Ryan drove out the next day, Ryan's arm tucked into a sling and Neil playing the Journey CD Summer had told him was Ryan's favorite, both without comment. When they arrived, Ryan stayed in a side room while Neil went in to speak to Kirsten.

"Neil?" Kirsten asked, surprised to see him. "What's going on? Not that I'm not happy to see any familiar, and friendly, face.."

Neil sighed, sitting down beside her, with her doctor on the other side of the coffee table. "Everyone's okay, but... some... things have happened while you've been here."

"What things?"

"Well, for starters, as I understand it, this all started a few months ago, when the Ryan was with Sandy and Seth in Miami...." Neil began.

Summer was perusing the real estate listings for Newport, mostly wrinkling her nose in disgust, and sometimes outright horror, at the places that were at or under the $400 a month range Ryan had mentioned, then clicking over to more expensive places that she knew her dad wouldn't mind paying rent on, and that neither she or her dad would be scared to leave Ryan in, but that Ryan would of course refuse to live in because they were too expensive.

"How could you?"

Summer froze, then slowly lifted her gaze to find Marissa standing in the doorway, anger radiating off of her almost as strongly as the smell of alcohol. For a moment, Summer considered apologizing, but then she remembered how it felt like her heart was being torn from her chest when she saw Marissa and Seth at the lifeguard tower, and she remembered the devastated look on Ryan's face and the pain in his eyes as they sat cross legged on his bed in the pool house afterwards, both too stunned to talk. She remembered Ryan's hand reaching to grasp hers and his whispered apology, as though it was his fault they both had whores for significant others. "How could I?" Summer asked, slowly getting up. "Oh, I don't know... maybe a little revenge? Except at least I slept with your ex-boyfriend who you had already cheated on, leading to him being your ex. I didn't screw him while you thought everything was good between you, like you screwed Seth."

"I was dealing with..."

"Yeah, you were. What Trey did was... unforgivable. But that doesn't make what you and Seth did okay, because it was Trey that hurt you, not Ryan, and not me. It was Ryan that went after Trey because he loved you so much he wanted to make Trey pay for what he did. I get that you went through something horrible, Coop, but... that does not make it okay for you to cheat on Ryan with your best friend's boyfriend!"

"You know I love Ryan!"

"Then why did you fuck Seth?!" Summer demanded. "Why did you fuck him over and over again behind Ryan's back, behind my back, if you love Ryan so much?! I think the obvious answer is that you don't love Ryan, you never did. You broke his heart, over and over again, you put his life in danger more than once..."

"No I didn't!"

"One name, Coop," Summer said. "Oliver Trask."

"That's not fair..."

"What's not fair is that you can chose psychos over your boyfriend, and you can chose to treat said boyfriend like shit and dump him, and you can chose to then call on him to save you when it turns out that he's right about psycho boy!" Summer snapped. "What's not fair is how you promised him you'd wait when he was trying to be a good guy and help Theresa, and then you told him you weren't seeing anyone when he came back, when really you had been fucking the yard boy since two weeks after he left, and Ryan found out by catching you! What's not fair is that you were his girlfriend and my best friend, but you started fucking his best friend and my boyfriend somewhere that was special to you and Ryan! That's what's not fair!"

"I was hurting!"

"So was Ryan! He blames himself for everything, and he was convinced it was his fault that Trey hurt you!"

"It is!"

Summer had been standing with her arms at her sides, fists clenched, fighting the urge to slap the other girl, but that was her limit. Summer closed the gap and slammed her fist into Marissa's face and feeling a bit let down that there was no satisfying crunch of breaking bones, but taking satisfaction in the slight trickle of blood that appeared. "Ryan would have died for you, Marissa! You went there knowing Trey would kick his ass, but he did it anyway because Trey hurt you and Ryan wasn't going to let him get away with that! So for you to blame him? No... get the fuck out of my house before I literally throw your skanky ass out."

"You can't talk to me like that!" Marissa protested, her expression outraged, even as blood continued to trickle from her nose.

Summer took a single step forward and leaned in. "Oh yes, I can," she said. "Do you really think everyone at Harbor will chose whiny Marissa Cooper over me? I may be a bitch, but I'm an equal opportunity bitch, I'm mean to everyone that isn't my inner cycle. But people know I won't turn around and stab them in the back. What are they gonna say when it gets out, all over school, that you fucked Seth behind Ryan and I's backs? Do you even know how well liked Ryan is? Do you even know how many people sent him emails saying they were sorry to hear about his brother? Or how about that his phone has been practically blowing up since word got out about his arm? People will side with us, and you will be so far on the outside you won't even be able to see me and Ryan sitting on our Harbor Thrones," Summer said coldly. "Get out, now, and I might be convinced to keep quiet about your oh-so-skanky ways."

Marissa stared at her for a long moment, her expression one of pain, from both from both the punch and the verbal lashing, then slowly turned and walked out, glancing back over her shoulder as Summer followed her out of the room, down the stairs and straight out the door. "I just don't understand..."

"Well, neither do I, Coop," Summer said. "I don't understand how you could throw away the two people who would have moved mountains to help you, for sex with Cohen." She shook her head, then closed the door and sank down to sit on the floor in front of it, fighting her tears.

"I spoke to Sandy yesterday, he didn't tell me any of this... he said Ryan didn't want to talk to me..." Kirsten said when Neil had finished explaining the situation, her anger having built with each new piece of information.

"I thought as much," Neil said. "Right now, the plan for Ryan is emancipation. He's staying with Summer and myself, and I'm going to loan him some money to help him pay for rent and food until his arm is healed enough he can work..."

"No, no, I will pay for his rent and food," Kirsten said. "I can't believe Sandy did this... I need a day pass, I need to see Ryan and tell him... tell him I'm so sorry for what Seth and Sandy did, that..."

"You don't have to."

Kirsten turned to see Ryan standing in the doorway, and she immediately got to her feet and went to pull him into a careful hug. "I'm so sorry..." she whispered. "For everything Seth did, and for what Sandy let him do..."

"It's not your fault."

Kirsten shook her head as she stepped back and cradled his face in her hands. "Maybe not, but... I am not letting you do this by yourself," she said. "The Newport Group has a few rental properties that I think are vacant, if I can make a few calls," she said, glancing at her doctor. "I can make arrangements for you to take one of them, rent free on your end. And I will set up a monthly transfer of money into your account for food and anything else you need..."

"No, no arguments on this, Ryan. I know what I said at the intervention, but I... I didn't mean it. You are my son as much as Seth is, and I... legally you may not be anymore, because my husband is an idiot and my other son is a spoiled brat, but that means nothing to me. Neil, if you can let him stay with you until everything is taken care of with the apartment, and help him get moved in?"

"Of course," Neil said. "I was prepared to do so until Ryan's arm was healed and he had some money saved up, so a week or two is nothing."

"And Harbor is actually already paid for next year," Kirsten said. "They gave us a little trouble last year about enrolling Ryan for the year when we didn't even know if he'd be back, so I paid for both years at once to just shut them up..." she said, smiling slightly when Ryan let out an amused snort. "I'll make the call about the properties as soon as you leave, and by the time you get back to Newport someone will be getting in touch about helping you find one a reasonable distance from Harbor... and you'll need a car to get around town..."

"I'll be fine," Ryan insisted.

"No, you need a car, that can wait a little while, but when school starts..."

"Summer was already planning to drive me, so I wouldn't have to spend time stuck in a confined space with Seth," Ryan insisted. "And the last thing I want is some expensive car when you're already insisting on me living rent free in a pace that I know runs more than three times what I consider even remotely reasonable rent."

"There was a big conversation this last night about differing views on what was a 'reasonable' rent," Neil told Kirsten. "Summer shut us both up by saying we should focus on finding a place that social services, Summer, and myself could all feel comfortable with Ryan living in. Technically Ryan is suppose to get input, but... I think we all know that's unlikely."

"Yeah, not happening," Ryan agreed before turning back to Kirsten. "But I can live without a car of my own for a while. If I have a year of free rent, I can save up and buy the car I want, not the one you want to get me. As long as I have a roof over my head and food in my stomach, I'll be fine."

"Part of the deal for the help from me is that until you're back home and can check in on him, Ryan will be having dinner with Summer and me at least once or twice a week," Neil said. "It also has the advantage of giving me the chance to get to know him better, although honestly I keep hearing far more good than bad."

"Despite my father and Julie's best efforts," Kirsten said.

"You know I never listen to gossip," Neil told her. "I'm sorry I had to give you this news, Kirsten."

"The only person to blame for that is Sandy," Kirsten said firmly. "I just can't believe he had the nerve to tell me you didn't want to talk to me."

"He kept telling me that he didn't want to worry you with the Trey stuff," Ryan said. "So it was best if I didn't talk to you."

"He's in serious shit when I talk to him," Kirsten said firmly, angry. "They both are."

Ryan's eyes widened slightly at the swear, but it almost made the broken arm and all the difficulties of the last few days and the coming weeks and months, worth it just to know that Kirsten cared enough to be that protective. "Thanks," he whispered.

"Well, I may have to ask you and Summer to help me find the best way to hit Seth where it'll hurt, metaphorically, of course, though there's a brief temptation..."

Ryan shook his head. "If anyone gets to hit him, it's me. Or maybe Summer, she's got a pretty good right hook. But cut off his comic book, music, and movies fund, that'll devastate him."

"Very good idea," Kirsten agreed.

As Neil came to a stop in the Roberts driveway a few hours later, he and Ryan exchanged glances at the sight of Summer dropping a haphazardly filled box of stuff into the backseat of her convertible.

"What are you doing, sweetheart?" Neil asked as the two men got out of the car.

"Getting ready to take the rest of Marissa's crap to her house and toss it out of the car as I do a sharp u-turn in the drive," Summer replied.

"She came by," Ryan guessed, moving over to wrap his good arm around her shoulders.

"And proceeded to act like us getting together after catching her and Seth at the lifeguard tower makes us the bad guys," Summer confirmed. "Because God knows, Marissa Cooper is never anything but the poor innocent victim, even when she's putting you in situations where guns get waved in your face, or where we walk in on her and Seth having sex, she's still the poor innocent victim, and I'm the horrible person for stealing you from her." She closed her eyes for a moment, taking a deep breath and shaking her head before opening her eyes again. "How'd it go with Kirsten?"

"Rent is not an issue because she's insisting I'll live in one of the Newport Group's rental properties, rent free, for the next year at the very least," Ryan said.

"In other words, she reacted just as I knew she would," Neil said. "She's furious at Sandy and Seth, and she's devastated that they could have cost her one of her sons, but she's not letting Ryan go so easily, even if legally he's not hers anymore."

"I told you!" Summer said to Ryan, lightly smacking his stomach. "What about Harbor?"

"Paid for," Ryan said. "She apparently had to pay for both Junior and Senior year last year when she registered me without evening knowing if I'd be back. It was the only way they'd let her take a spot that could have been given to another potential student."

"Perfect," Summer said.

Neil's phone rang and he glanced at the display. "Newport Group," he told the kids as he answered it and headed inside.

"I told you everything would be okay," Summer said. "People love you more than you know."

"Kirsten's gonna cut Seth off from his comics, music, and movie funds," Ryan revealed as he turned Summer towards the house. "And she and your dad are trying to convince me to accept that money myself, as a... settlement of sorts from Seth for the arm."

"You so should," Summer said. "Use it to take me out on dates, and..." she paused to make sure her dad wasn't close enough to see or hear, then stood on tiptoe to whisper in Ryan's ear. "Maybe to buy something... fun... for us?"

Ryan kissed her. "I love you," he whispered.

"I love you, too, Chino."

"Your dad was gonna set up an appointment for us to look at a few of the properties tomorrow, find one that's in the best location for me."

"Good, because I'm sure any of those places will be acceptable to all parties, even if you hate the idea of it."

"Honestly? I kinda like the idea of it, because it means someone else is on my side."

Summer wrapped her arms around his waist, her head resting on his shoulder. "I don't think you have any idea how much you are loved."

"Maybe not," Ryan agreed. "Anyway, I wanted to ask... do you wanna come with? I mean, your dad has already acknowledged you'll probably be over there a lot, so... I wouldn't mind getting your opinion."

Summer nodded against his shoulder. "I'd love to go look at places with you," she said.

"Good, because Kirsten also insisted that she'll transfer enough money to my account to pay for new furniture, and I need someone to keep forcing me to buy when I try to say a fold out couch and an endtable is enough," Ryan said.

Summer laughed slightly. "Your getting a real bed, and a regular couch, and a desk, and a real dresser, not a giant wicker shelf thing, and..."

Ryan smiled as she continued to list off what she planned to make him buy.

To Be Continued...

When figuring this part out, I momentarily forget about the fact that Caleb was in pretty bad shape, legally and financially, when he died. So... for the sake of this fic, let's pretend he wasn't, okay? There was a tiny bit of trouble over him using the Newport Group to hide his payments to Lindsay's mom, but there were no other financial issues, and his fortune is intact. So Kirsten can easily arrange to pay &1,500+ a month for a condo for Ryan (Yes, that's the real going rate for a LOT of apartments in Newport Beach... cheapest I've found that I can imagine Kirsten willingly putting Ryan into are in the $900-$1,100 range... yes, I really did research it) And while yes, there's probably some cheaper ones in the Numbered Streets, I can't seem to find listings for any online to get an idea of rent, and as for places like Alex's/Trey's old apartment, can you seriously see Kirsten willing letting Ryan live there when she can afford to put him in a nice place in a safe area? So, Ryan will be in a nice little Condo owned by The Newport Group that Kirsten will pay for and Summer will decorate... lol... I'm picturing Kirsten getting a day pass from rehab (because her doctor thinks helping Ryan will give her a bit of a reminder of why she wants to stay sober) and going shopping witth Summer to furnish and decorate Ryan's new place...

This all may be really unrealistic, but... damn it, what's fanfic for if you can't be unrealistic?! And The OC was never known for it's realism... lol

I DID go back and read the other parts - in a crazy sort of order - and it felt good to read OC fic again, especially one where Marissa gets what she's always deserved. Nice job.

Oh yeah, and my fav shipping didn't hurt either.

This is a great chapter. I really like how Summer hit Marissa and told her off. Plus Mama Bear Kirsten made it even better. I'm hoping that we get to see what she says to Sandy and Seth the next time that she talks to them.

I'm glad that Neil took Ryan with him to Suriak and told Kirsten what has been happening. It kind of makes me wonder what other important things Sandy hasn't told her.

As for the confrontation between Summer and Marissa, it's great that Summer stood up to Marissa the way that she did. After everything that she has done, someone needed to really stand up to Marissa and tell her that. It was one of the things that I really wished that Summer or Ryan would have done on the show.

Love the day pass to spend a day with Ryan....and totally ignore Seth. While Seth deserves no sympathy I hope Sandy gets his head out of his ass at some point before it's too late to have any kind of a relationship with Ryan.
