Oneshot: Kick
So, I'm trying to get back in the habit of actually writing. In that vein... have a oneshot! Ryan, Kirsten, and (kinda) Sophie Rose. Just a sweet little family moment taking place while the Cohens+1 were living in the Roberts Mansion Post-Earthquake.

Ryan walked in the door of the Roberts Mansion after a late shift at work and found Kirsten curled up on the couch, watching some old movie on tv. "Hey," he greeted her with a slight smile.

"Hey," Kirsten replied, patting the seat next to her.

Ryan set his bag down next to the couch, then took a seat, for a moment watching the movie with her in silence. It wasn't the cold and worrying silence he had grown up with, but rather a silence that just meant nothing needed to be said. Then he heard Kirsten make a slight noise and looked over to see her hand on her rounded belly. "Kirsten?" he asked, worried.

Kirsten shook her head, smiling. "She kicked," she said.

"Yeah?" Ryan said, returning the smile.

"Wanna feel?" Kirsten asked, gesturing for his hand.

Hesitantly Ryan let her take his hand and guide it over her belly until a sharp kick hit his palm. "That is so cool," he said. "The... when Theresa was pregnant... we didn't get to the kick stage. There were like.. flutters, but not obvious solid kicks," he told her quietly. "Does it hurt?"

"Only when she manages to hit my lungs," Kirsten replied, letting Ryan move his hand from her belly, but keeping a loose hold on it. "You know that... This baby doesn't change anything between you and us. You are still our son, we still love you, this doesn't change that. We might have a little less time at first, but... we will still be here for you if you need us."

"I know," Ryan said honestly. "I'm actually... I'm kind of looking forward to being the big brother for once," he admitted. "Secretly teach her a right hook for when boys get out of hand..."

Kirsten laughed slightly. "Teach her soccer? Because if she's already got this good of a kick..."

Ryan laughed with her. "Yeah, teach her soccer. Teach her not to let anyone ever tell her that she's not enough, that she doesn't deserve love. Like you guys taught me."

"Oh, honey."

"I know I don't... I know I don't say it, but... I love you guys. When I talk about my family, I mean you guys. You're... you're more my mom than Dawn ever was, Sandy's a better dad than Frank ever was. You're my family. You're... home. If that makes sense."

"It does," Kirsten said, nodding. "You're ours, just as much as Seth and this baby. And no matter where you go in life, we are always going to love you and have a place for you to come home to."

Ryan smiled again and leaned forward to give Kirsten a hug. "I love you," he said.

"I love you, too," Kirsten said. "Now, go to bed."

Ryan laughed slightly. "Yes, mom," he said, teasing, as he got up and grabbed his bag. "I'll see you in the morning."

"Sleep well."

"You, too."

The End
