24 Gifts Of 2016 - Day Two - Home For The Holidays (Ryan Bullit!Verse, Ryan/Brooke)
So... late again. No real excuse this time except I was lazy today... lol... will try to get the Day 2 gift up on, you know, Day 3...

Anyway! This fic is set in my Ryan Bullit!Verse, that's the one where Gordon Bullit is the guy Ryan knew in Texas, but instead of being an ex-boyfriend of Dawn's, Bullit is Ryan's godfather, and he adopted Ryan. This one takes place while Ryan is in college and dating Brooke, taking her to meet his family in Texas.

Home For The Holidays

"So... you never gave me my ticket," Brooke said as they walked through the airport, seemingly headed far from the other gates.

"I know," Ryan said with a grin. "You might want to zip up your coat again," he added as they approached their gate. "Hi," he said to the attendant there, pulling out his ID. "Ryan Bullit and guest," he said.

"Of course," the woman said with a wide smile. "The plane's ready to go, take off should be n about thirty to forty five minutes."

"Thank you," Ryan said, turning back to Brooke and grinning at her confused expression. "You coming or not?" he said.

"What kind of plane doesn't have a line, and doesn't require either ticket or bording pass?" Brooke asked.

"The kind owned by Bullit Oil," the attendant said with a smile.

"Bullit Oil?" Brooke asked.

"Did I not mention we were flying on one of my dad's private planes?" Ryan asked.

"A private plane?" Brooke echoed, following him through the doors and onto the tarmac, where a large private jet with the words 'Bullit Oil' in white on it's blue body, sat waiting for them. "You're joking, right?"

"Nope," Ryan said, shaking his head. "Dad has a couple of them, and he keeps this one here in case I need to get home quick," he said.

"You said your family was 'comfortable', but this..."

"Okay, so maybe 'comfortable' wasn't the right word so much as... filthy stinkin' rich?" Ryan acknowledged. "Multiple homes across the country and around the world, big family home just outside Dallas on a couple hundred acres... horses, cattle... technically I could never work a day in my life and spend thousands a day and only barely dent the bank account. And if any of us really wanted to do that, Dad would let us, he lets my brother Spencer run around 'having fun', and if any of the rest of us wanted to he'd do the same. He puts some limits on our access to family money, but... he still makes sure we have more than enough to live comfortably on."

"You don't seem like the rich kid type," Brooke said, looking around the comfortable plane in curiousity before taking off her coat and settling on one of the long bench seats.

"Well, I've only been a rich kid a couple years," Ryan said, sitting beside her. "It's... Dad adopted me. My bilogical parents, Frank and Dawn... they worked for my dad since before I was born, and Dad was actually my godfather. I spent the first eight years of my life on the Bullit ranch, I got to run around and play with the Bullit Boys, and with their neighbors, John Ross and Christopher, and just have fun as a kid. When I was eight, Dad found out Frank was stealing from him, and fired him, plus called the cops. Frank went to jail, and Dawn claimed we'd been banished from Texas. I had a crappy life from then until I was fifteen and... Dawn was a lousy mom and I ended up in a foster home. I thought it was gonna be good, stable. Then some shit when down with this crazy kid with a gun threatening a girl I had been dating, and I ended up getting shot by the kid. My foster father barely let me get home from the hospital for an hour before he sat me down to lecture me about how if I had told them the kid was a whack job it could have all been prevented and I... I said screw it, packed a bag, and got on a bus to Texas. Dad opened his door to me, and within a year he'd gotten Dawn and Frank to sign over their parental right and he adopted me."

"I did not know you were capable of talking that much at once," Brooke teased. "But that sucks. I mean the Dawn and Frank stuff, not the getting adopted by a rich guy part."

Ryan chuckled. "I love the ranch, I love getting up with the sun, checking on the horses and cattle, going for a ride out into the middle of our property, just spending a day out in the middle of nowhere and knowing that it belongs to my family and will never become some over built city block. We buy and sell acreage with neighbors, but never enough to let city encroach too close."

"That sounds really nice."

"It is. It's peaceful. And wait until you have Maria's pancakes... oh my god, that's the thing I miss most, I think."

"Should I be getting jealous of pancakes?" Brooke asked.

"Possibly yes," Ryan replied. "Mostly I can't wait for you to meet my family. My Dad, all twelve brothers... Dad's gonna love you."

The End

I like how relaxed Ryan is about his family having money, but I'm a little surprised that Brooke found out just how rich his family is.

After reading this, I'm curious to see how Brooke's mother would react. Her meeting Ryan for the first time and thinking he's beneath her and the her reaction when she learns about his family.
